A Year In Procedural Infinity

"Elite Dangerous"

Most gamer friends who used to play No Man's Sky are wary of the long term losses they incurred in the past when the algorithms updated and entire player-built bases were half-buried, found floating far above the surface, or completely lost when they returned to the game after a patch. Even today I'm able to trigger bugs fairly regularly in the game, which is why I haven't played much of it lately.

My 2023 PlayStation Wrap-Up shows I spent over 30% of my console gaming time in No Man's Sky alone. I played every expedition, I enjoyed uncovering new scraps of lore, and I role-played helping the underdog any time I could.

At this stage I doubt they'll ever fix the bugs I can replicate no matter how many times I post bug reports to the developers. I imagine the code base is simply too old and creaky and I'm sure they need to focus on their next title they recently announced.

In the meantime I have a very large backlog of other games to enjoy, and I won't uninstall the game anytime soon. It's worth keeping it installed for the expeditions as they give me the opportunity to scratch the itch to see new colorful landscapes, aliens, and starships. Even if I end up doing it all alone, safe and sound in my fully upgraded starships, exosuit, and exocraft.
